Press briefing: presentation of the study “Auslandsmobilität in der Lehrlingsausbildung” and the multi-point plan to increase the mobility of apprentices

Experiences of the economy and schools, recommendations for action and measures of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF), the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affair
22.09.2021

Apprenticeships are an essential part of the vocational education and training system in Austria. Despite institutional support offers and financial support instruments such as Erasmus+ there are still numerous factors that lead to the fact that significantly fewer apprentices than pupils of schools and colleges for intermediate and higher vocational education and academic secondary schools have international mobility experience.

In order to learn more about motives and expectations as well as obstacles to mobility and potential incentives the OeAD as national agency for education and internationalisation, together with the BMBWF, the BMDW and the WKÖ, commissioned the ibw (Institute for Research & Development in VET) to conduct the study “Auslandsmobilität in der Lehrlingsausbildung” (“International mobility in apprenticeship training”) in June 2020. The results will now be presented together with a multi-point plan to increase apprentice mobility.
