Invitation to the Burgenland presentation: ‘Digital Memorial Landscape – DERLA Burgenland. The Persecution and Murder of the Roma during the Nazi Era’

On 5 February 1995 four Roma from Oberwart fell victim to a right-wing extremist bomb attack. To mark this anniversary the OeAD, Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation, together with the Centre for Jewish Studies of the University of Graz and representatives of the Roma ethnic group, will present the expansion of Austria's digital memorial landscape (DERLA) to include the province of Burgenland. The education minister Martin Polaschek and the governor of the province of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, will also attend this event.

DERLA is a documentation and education project. It documents the places and symbols of remembrance of the victims and sites of terror of the Nazi regime in Austria and aims to promote critical engagement with National Socialism and its memory. The interdisciplinary cooperation project is also dedicated to developing new concepts for digital remembrance education and offers concrete opportunities for educational work.

DERLA Burgenland is a cooperation project between the national education agency OeAD, the University of Graz (Centre for Jewish Studies, Centre for Information Modelling) and the Private University College of Teacher Education Burgenland. Other partners include the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) and the Province of Burgenland. The DERLA project is implemented in Burgenland by the network coordinator for the OeAD programme ERINNERN:AT.

The event marks the start of ERINNERN:AT's annual focus on the genocide of European Roma and Sinti during the Nazi era.
