#Erasmusdays 2020: European-wide days of action from 15 to 17 October
Europe celebrates and Austria celebrates with it: From 15 to 17 October the whole of Austria can get an idea of the numerous activities funded by the EU through Erasmus+. From Burgenland to Vorarlberg more than 80 institutions in the education and youth sector will present their Erasmus+ activities. This year the pan-European event will mostly take place in a virtual manner.
The Minister for Education and Science, Heinz Faßmann, welcomes the initiative: "Erasmus is one of the European Union’s great success stories. Especially in this year, which has been affected by the Covid 19 crisis, it is important to spread the European idea and to emphasise the positive aspects of a united Europe."
The 2020 event will be characterised by online formats. A series of participatory events under the motto "My heart beats for Erasmus+" will be offered. For the OeAD’s managing director Jakob Calice the Erasmusdays 2020 are – especially due to the more difficult conditions caused by the Corona pandemic – also "an opportunity for further digitisation of Austria as a location for education". "We are looking forward to exciting events and as OeAD we will of course support the institutions in our usual high-quality manner," explains Calice.
Easier access and Green Erasmus as of 2021
While the current programme generation of Erasmus+ strongly focuses on employability the future programme starting in 2021 will additionally be dominated by topics such as inclusion and "Green Erasmus". The aim is to make access to the programme even easier and more inclusive in the future. Preparations at European level for the new programme are in the final stages.
Millions of people testify to the added value of the programme
Ten million Europeans have learnt, studied, taught or done internships across Europe with Erasmus+ and its predecessor programmes. Since Austria participated in the EU educational programme for the first time in 1992 more than a quarter of a million people from Austria have been transnationally mobile with Erasmus+. In 2019 45.68 million euros of EU funding went to Austria; 100 per cent of which was used. This enabled 22,000 students, pupils, teachers and lecturers, apprentices and people working in education to spend time abroad.

In Austria the OeAD is responsible for the implementation of "Erasmus+ Education" as national agency on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) and the European Commission.
